In a unexpected collaboration that challenges usual predictions, Ubisoft has announced an virtual crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event operates from November 25 through December 22, offering free additional story content for Shadows players.

Mysterious Adventure Revealed

According to the official announcement, "An unusual confrontation pulls protagonists Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh quest, where rumors of banned practices and fearsome transformations reverberate through the darkness." The narrative presents a "unusually dressed woman named Ada" who charges the duo with venturing into the Crystal Cave—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her friend from a hidden group.

The questline concentrates on "bizarre experiments and a monstrous adversary" and is open to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.

Recognizable Locations and Metamorphoses

The teaser features the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was earlier where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through generations. The teaser ends with a dramatic moment showing a character, presumably the hostage, changing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Items and Bonus Content

Players who successfully complete the quest will receive an special katana together with numerous items secreted throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also features purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, including:

• Titan-themed attire for Yasuke
• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Special implements
• Survey Corps vehicle

Third Free Story Content

This patch also brings the game's third no-cost story episode, titled "The Enigma." This humorous quest partners Naoe and Yasuke as they swap signature abilities: Naoe reveals a theatrical interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-lethal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Enigma" also contains a original environmental puzzle that may finally shed light on some unresolved questions from the main storyline.

This marks not the primary time the Assassin's Creed franchise has crossed over with well-known anime series. The series formerly featured a 2020 cross-promotional story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla informally contained a quest that unmistakably referenced the well-known series One-Punch Man.
